You know the bikini- but do you know its story?
It all started in 1946 when two French designers had the same idea: a scandalously small two-piece swimsuit. One named his creation the “Atome”- tiny and shocking, just like the atomic bomb. The other found inspiration in a coconut-covered Pacific island called Pikki-ni, where nuclear tests where making headlines. When the name passed through American lips, it was forever changed to the one we all know: the "bikini”.
But our story doesn’t start on an island. It begins on a sun-drenched beach in the 1960s when a young boy watched in awe as his father’s girlfriend reached into her beach bag and pulled out a bikini, folded neatly inside a matchbox. Decades later, that boys daughter, Ellie, decided to bring that memory to life, creating a collection of bikinis elegantly fitting into matchboxes.
At Matchbox Bikini club, every tiny box holds more than just a swimsuit - it holds a story.
A nod to retro elegance, a wink at beachside mischief and a reminder that sometimes, the best things come in the smallest packages.
See you on the beach!
