Here is the honest version of the wellness conversation that nobody really has: it's not about having a morning routine. It's about having a morning routine that you will actually do. On the days when one child has lost a shoe, the other one is staging some kind of emotional event about breakfast and you haven't had a full night's sleep since approximately 2021. That's the bar. Not optimal. Functional. Pleasurable, even, if you can swing it.

I am not a wellness influencer. I am a woman who started a business while pregnant, launched it postpartum. I have ADHD. I have two boys. I have a colour coded notebook. I have somehow, a skincare routine I actually enjoy. What I don't have is six hours a morning or a chef, though I am working on the chef. The point is: here is what actually works for me, in real life, with all the chaos included.

It starts, always, with the chia seed pudding. Berries, pomegranate seeds, pumpkin seeds — made the night before, waiting in the fridge like a small act of self-respect from Yesterday Me to Today Me. A cup of tea. The school run. And then, crucially, the thing that changed everything: I come home and I do not immediately open my laptop. I either grab a matcha out, or I make one at home, and I sit with it. Five, ten minutes. This is apparently what sanity feels like.

The Matchbox Philosophy of Wellness:

Small things, beautifully contained. Turns out it's also a reasonable approach to not losing your mind. You don't need a two hour morning routine. You need five things you'll actually do, consistently, that make you feel like yourself. Pack light. Choose well. Same vibe.

My Daily Non-Negotiables:

1. Make Tomorrow's Breakfast Tonight

Chia pudding in the fridge. Berries, pomegranate, pumpkin seeds on top in the morning. Saves my entire morning mindset.

2. The 20,000 Step Non-Negotiable

This is where everything happens. Podcast in, voice memo running, body moving. I solve problems, generate ideas, and process feelings all on the same walk. It is free therapy with better lighting.

3. Voice Memo Everything

My ADHD means the thought is there and then it isn't. Voice memo while walking means I get home and I know exactly what I need to do.

4. The Colour-Coded Notebook

Blue for kids. Yellow for Matchbox. Green for body stuff. Orange for self-care. Purple for the brain things. Highlighters, not to-do lists. You can see the whole shape of your life at a glance. Genuinely changed how I work.

5. Move, Then Work. Not The Other Way Round.

Moving first means everything after it is sharper. Even just 10 minutes of stretching or yoga, which is usually what I manage to achieve.

6. The Evening Ritual (Non-Negotiable)

Eye cream (Chanel, obviously), reusable under-eye patches, TV, total shutdown. Then the silk eye mask goes, ours is 100% silk and says "Off Duty" on it, it's black with olive piping. Matching our Dirty Martini bikini. I'm convinced we made the best one. This is not the time for modesty. It is, however, the time to stop being available to anyone about anything.

7. The Matcha Pause

After school drop-off, before the laptop opens. Make a matcha, sit with it, do not scroll. This is the ten-minute gap between who you are for everyone else and who you are for yourself. It is very small and very important.

8. Always Have a Bikini On You

Mine lives in my bag or my coat pocket. If I walk past my gym, I can pop into the sauna without planning anything. Usually I'm already in workout clothes, so: stretch, steam room, done. I cannot actually swim, which makes this extremely on-brand. The bikini is for the sauna. The matchbox fits in a pocket. This is why we made it.

 

The candle is burning at both ends. That's fine. The trick is making sure there's something lovely happening in the middle.
